Blanche (Student) and Carolyn (Volunteer) meet for tutoring in the library at Blanche’s senior housing center. Blanche, who left school around the 7th grade and is disabled, wants to improve her reading and writing. Her literacy goal is to be able to read books to her grandchildren. 

Writing is a challenge, so Carolyn makes sure to incorporate writing opportunities into their tutoring sessions. Progress is being made, because Blanche works diligently. The couple also works on life skills; Carolyn helps Blanche sort through her mail, and assists in completing forms and applications.
