Before creating a program that has helped thousands of adults around the world learn to read, Ruth Colvin was a golfer. In 1950, Ruth founded the Dubbers Golf Group for women at Drumlins Country Club. Now at 106 years old, Ruth still spends her summer playing 9 holes each week as she continues to attend meetings and support LiteracyCNY.
The Inaugural Ruth Colvin Invitational Golf Tournament is in the books, and what a great day it was! We were able to raise $25,000. We had the best group of participants, sponsors, volunteers, and staff. On behalf of LiteracyCNY, we would like to thank everyone for their support in making the Invitational a success. A special shoutout to Drumlins Country Club for providing a beautiful venue.
Though it was a cloudy day, everyone was all smiles, and the rain was on our side and held off till the last couple of holes. There were so many fun times shared, relationships formed, and unforgettable memories made. The highlight that stuck out, and everyone would agree, was having Ruth Colvin, 106-year-old Founder of LiteracyCNY, hit the opening drive to start the tournament. A second delightful highlight was the auctioning of the ball that Ruth hit to open the Invitational with her signature.
Even though the inaugural Invitational just happened, we have already started planning for next year. We hope to see you next year on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Drumlins Country Club.
